About Me:
I am excited to be in my 14th year at Avondale Middle School and my 19th year in Avondale Schools!
As a resident of Avondale and an active member of the community, I am proud to work and live in this area. It is a unique experience to see my students right alongside my own children at church, in community events, at restaurants, parks and other events. I love that I know the area and what it’s like to raise children here and send them to Avondale Schools.
I have three daughters, all attending Avondale Schools. They are active in sports, drama, choir, band and give me an insight into other teachers’ practices from the parent viewpoint. I am constantly impressed with the teachers my daughters have and trust them implicitly with the task of educating my kids.
Outside of the classroom, I spend most of my time planning and executing the lives of my three kids. I do make time to go running or to the gym as often as I can. I enjoy amateur photography here and there and am an avid reader. We attend Kensington Church weekly and really enjoy it there.
My History:
For about 8 years, I was a guidance counselor in Avondale. My first year was at Meadows Upper Elementary, which is now closed. I then moved to Graham Elementary as an Elementary Counselor. Finally, when those positions were eliminated, I was fortunate enough to get a part- time position as a counselor at AMS. I have been here ever since. Due to the closing of Meadows, several staff members were required to function differently so as to realign our staffing with the buildings that remained open. It was that move that put me into the classroom. I LOVE it! I am so glad that happened.
My Philosophy
Sixth grade is a big transition and with that, I hold an important job in making it as smooth as possible. Through the help of the Route 5/6 Initiative, the current 5th and 6th teachers have met and planned activities that make AMS feel like home for our newest Mustangs. When your student arrives in my classroom, I hope to continue that transition with flexibility and compassion. I believe introducing more rigor into his/her day, including deadlines, requirements and work ethic while also having a realistic perspective. They are 11 years old, and as such, are still young. Having taught 7th grade as well, I also know what they need to be prepared for in the future.
